A *KUPINDIKA címet viselő kiállítás legfőbb célja, hogy a női létet és testiséget egy intimebb perspektívából mutassa be. A vulva – avagy jóni, „csúnya”, esetleg tiltott gyümölcs – alakja ugyanis háttérbe szorult a mindennapjainkban és az ábrázolóművészetekben egyaránt. Janus Pannonius reneszánsz költőtől ismerünk már olyan pajzán epigrammákat, amikben alig győzi kellően deskriptív leírását adni „Orsolya mindzsójának” – négy különálló költeményét is a téma ismertetésének szentelte. Ennek ellenére a modern, felvilágosult társadalmak kialakulását követően, még a 19. század második felében is radikálisan cenzúrázták a női testet: Gustave Courbet realisztikus és az akadémiai hagyományoktól mereven eltérő, A világ eredete című profán szeméremtest-ábrázolásával egészében megbotránkoztatta korának művészetvilágát.

*kupindika (szuahéli): görbület, hajlat. A hinduizmusban másnéven a jóni (vagyis az ’örömforrás’) megjelölésére és Shakti, a női teremtő erő istennőjének szimbólumaként alkalmazzák. A keleti kultúrákban az örökös teremtés és megújulás kozmikus folyamatát – így magát az élet forrását is – a nőiség princípiumával azonosítják. Akárcsak Courbet, mikor a világ eredetének gondolatát az ismeretlen modell premier plánban megfestett szőrös vénuszdombjával társította anélkül, hogy idealizálta volna a témát.

Az élet forrása – másnéven a virág, nuni, suna, pina, muff – előtt tisztelgő tárlaton a női testi- és lelki egészség egy meghittebb kontextusba ágyazva, bensőségesebb szempontok mentén feltárva mutatkozik meg. Maga a női test lírikusan és a jelenkori (toxikus) szépségideálokat figyelmen kívül hagyva manifesztálódik, a női szexualitásnak pedig egy tudatosabb és bizalmasabb formája kerül ábrázolásra. Eged Enikő Katalin képzőművész és Varga Kamilla kollázsművész egyaránt olyan ’safe space’ érzetét keltő műveket hoznak létre, amiken a nők egymásközti és önmaguk felé gyakorolt intimitása is sokkal érzékenyebben nyilvánul meg. Alkotói tevékenységük szöges ellentéte a modern male-gaze kultusz fetisizáló és szexualizáló, az erotikát valamint az érzékiséget maszkulin-preferenciák mentén kisajátító narratíváinak. Az Ádám Anna vezette Női Erotikus Írókörrel közösen tervezett interaktív installációval, illetve a tematikus workshopok által lehetőség nyílik továbbá bárki számára, hogy határozottan (ön)tudatosabban legyen képes viszonyulni saját női mivoltához.

The aim of KUPINDIKA is to present womanhood from an intimate perspective. The shape of the vulva – or yoni, „ugly”, forbidden fruit – has been oppressed in our daily lives and in the visual arts as well. From the Renaissance poet Janus Pannonius, we know many naughty epigrams, such as where he barely manages to introduce sufficiently descriptively „Orsolya’s punani” – ​​he dedicated four separate poems to the topic. Nevertheless, after the development of modern, enlightened societies, even in the second half of the 19th century, the female body was still radically censored: Gustave Courbet’s profane depiction of the vulva entitled The Origin of the World left the artworld of his time in a scandalous shock, for it was unusually realistic and rigidly different from the traditional academic methods.

*kupindika (Swahili): curvature, bend. In Hinduism, it is often used as a synonym of yoni (that is, the ‘source of joy’) and as a symbol of Shakti, the goddess of female creative power. In Eastern cultures, the cosmic process of eternal creation and regeneration – thus the source of life itself – is identified with the principle of femininity. Just like with Courbet, when he associated the idea of the origin of the world with the hairy mons pubis of the unknown model, painted in premiere plan and without the idealisation of the subject.

The exhibition pays homage to the source of life – known as the flower, coochie, pussy, cunt, fanny, muff – by displaying women’s physical and mental health in a more profound context and explored along new, intimate aspects. The female body itself is manifested lyrically while ignoring contemporary (toxic) beauty ideals, whilst a more conscious and confidential form of female sexuality is being depicted. Visual artist Enikő Katalin Eged and collage artist Kamilla Varga create works that enhance the feeling of a ‘safe space’, in which the intimacy of women with each other, and with themselves can be expressed much more sensitively. Their creative practice is the exact opposite of the well-known fetishizing and sexualizing narratives of the modern male-gaze cult, which appropriates eroticism and sensuality to serve the masculine preferences. With the interactive installation we designed with the Women’s Writing Club led by Anna Ádám, as well as the thematic workshops led by amazing empowering women, it will also be possible for anyone to become more consciously able to relate to their own femininity.
